John Wilder and Andy Raether opened Origin Climbing & Fitness on May 18, 2015. To celebrate Origin’s successful first year of business, the gym is having a bouldering competition and party on May 18, 2016, at 5 p.m. Origin was born out of a passion for climbing and a desire to create an inclusive space where climbers of all levels can come together to share an experience that is positive physically, socially and culturally. The team at Origin is committed to providing an engaging, aesthetic and interactive space that empowers climbers to grow and explore new dimensions in physical and mental fitness. Origin is dedicated to welcoming everyone, whether you want to learn, get fit, make friends or just have fun doing something new. In addition to climbing walls with various routes, our facility has many additional amenities.
John and Andy spent the better part of two years designing and creating the philosophies behind Origin, and every part of the space reflects this.
"Utilizing the space to create wide open areas while taking advantage of as much natural light as we could was very important to us," John says of the design process, "Origin was designed with the user experience in mind, we were very careful not to pack as much wall as we could into the space, but instead focused on creating a space that people would feel welcome and inspired in."
Our yoga studio is filled with art from local artists and has tons of natural light to enhance the classes presented by our partner, TruFusion.
Part of the design of Origin was setting aside a large space in the gym for Andy's custom designed training area- complete with a woody wall, systems wall, campus rungs, hangboards, and of course the treadwall. Andy and his father shaped thousands of wooden holds by hand for the wood wall, and write unique names on them while also encouraging members to give suggestions for hold names. Our world-class training area has everything you need to push your limits as a climber.
Our fitness center has a wide array of cardio equipment and weights for strength training, helping to round out a strong, comprehensive fitness regimen. You can also find more local artwork in this inviting room that looks out across the climbing space.
Origin's focus remains on continuing to improve an already amazing climbing experience for its members and the entire Las Vegas area climbing community. These improvements will include some major changes to the youth program over the summer and into the fall, large climbing events in the fall of 2016, and more involvement with the sport's governing body, USA Climbing.
“As 2016 began, we did make some pivotal changes for the company by bringing on a new Sales Director, Desk Manager, and Youth Director. We realized that for Origin to grow and truly become a world class facility, we would have to invest in the right people to help us grow. I believe that having a top notch management team will allow us to take Origin to the next level and I'm very excited about what our second year will bring."
In addition to the bouldering competition, the one-year anniversary event will include complimentary drinks from Bad Beat Brewery, a raffle, vendor demos, a food truck and special member appreciation awards. Registration includes your competition scorecard, drinks, and a raffle ticket.
