The Las Vegas climbing community is one of the most unique and diverse groups of people anywhere in the world. At ORIGIN, our members are our family. Every month we'll feature one (or in this case two) of our most outstanding community leaders to help inspire new visitors to jump in and become part of the crew.
For February we thought it would be appropriate to feature our favorite love birds: Luke & Lizzie Justice. This dynamic duo has been part of the ORIGIN family since day one. If you're new to the community and need a friendly face and some awesome beta, look no further!
We loved hiking and backpacking. While doing research we came across canyoneering. We thought learning to climb would help us to learn rope work for canyoneering. We joined a climbing gym and really enjoyed it. We decided to enter a climbing comp at one of the local gyms, and met a really nice family from California. It was probably pretty obvious that we had no idea what we were doing, and they immediately took us under their wing. After climbing with them all day they offered to take us climbing in red rock the next morning. We went and it was the best time we've ever had (they hung top ropes for us on panty wall). We will always be so grateful to our first climbing mentors! As it turned out there are only a few similarities between climbing and canyoneering. We now do both, but love climbing more than anything.
There are so many things to love about climbing! The community is so generous and accepting. We also love the mental focus that climbing requires. It gives us a chance to drop the stresses from our lives and focus just on what’s in front of us if only for a couple hours. Getting outside is also very refreshing!
Trad is rad! Sport climbing is neither?
We love red rock. Anything in Willow Springs is fun.
Luke: Zion Space Shot
Lizzie: Don't be stressed. Just have fun.
Luke: Buying climbing gear! Also a lot of people hate GoPro climbing videos... I love them. I often search "red rock climbing" on youtube to relive some favorite climbs or aspire of new sends.
Lizzie: reading and photography
Local food protip: - Soho Sushi Burrito - Jones and the 215 - climb in red rock and then stop on the way home for sushi burritos... We don't do music or culture.. but we've heard origin has both.
We got engaged on our first date after knowing each other for less than a week. We got married 3 months later, and have been happily together for 9 years now.
Love the fresh Monday and Wednesday boulder sets! Love the staff. Love the members. ORIGIN Bouldering League is also really fun
Luke: Talk to people at the gym. The nicest people we know are climbers!
Lizzie: Luke may appear grumpy and mean, but it just isn't true. He is nice. Talk to Luke.
